Here at Resonance Improv, we’re excited to perform, but we’re even more excited to leverage the power of improv to change lives. We offer applied improv workshops to community groups!

Here are the ways you can get involved, whether you’re an improviser or a behind-the-scenes type.

💡Create Your Own Opportunity

Resonance Improv YES-ANDs your ideas!

Opportunities are not limited to what our leadership team schedules—they’re open to anyone. If you have an idea for a show, jam, workshop, applied improv project, new outreach initiative, or something totally unconventional, we’re here for it. We would love to help you bring it to life.

Bring us your idea—big, small, serious, silly—and we will support you by connecting you with venues, resources, and in some cases, funding. Funding may be available if your project aligns with our outreach mission to underserved communities, or if it can generate enough ticket sales to cover costs.

You don’t need special permission or a title.
Just reach out. Fostering your creativity is a big part of why we exist!

🌟 Performer

Your role:
Communicate with the producer or Resonance leadership
Arrive on time

Time: ~3 hours on show day

🎬 Producer / Director

Take creative control of a production!

Time: A few hours/week for 4 weeks, plus 4–5 hours on show day

Resonance will:

  • Help you find & book a venue
  • Handle contracts and fees
  • Help recruit volunteers & performers
  • Promote the show
  • Ensure alignment with our mission
  • Answer all your questions

Your role:

  • Choose performers/troupes
  • Set a theme (optional)
  • Plan lineup & schedule
  • Confirm performer commitment
  • Coordinate with Resonance for any resources or volunteers

Together, we will:

  • Work with a benefactor if it’s a fundraiser
  • Have a lot of fun!

😁 Social Jam Leader

Lead fun, low-pressure improv jams in a convenient location.

Time: 2–2.5 hours per jam, monthly or quarterly

Resonance will:

  • Secure venue on dates that work for you
  • Handle fees
  • Promote the jam
  • Provide support and guidance

Your role:

  • Plan (or improvise!) the jam
  • Facilitate and engage participants
  • Record attendance
  • Report any issues

👥 Workshop Facilitator

Lead or support our applied improv workshops in places like senior centers, the homeless shelter, and schools.

Time: 1–2.5 hours per workshop, monthly or quarterly

To see current workshops and event

Resonance will:

  • Schedule with our partners
  • Provide support and guidance
  • Train you to use applied improv in the setting

Lead facilitator role:

  • Understand the audience/community needs
  • Plan warm-ups/exercises
  • Arrive early to meet the host
  • Lead the session
  • Time: 3–6 hours total

Support facilitator role:

  • Coordinate with the lead
  • Review the day’s plan
  • Assist during the event by playing improv games
  • Time: 2-3 hours total

🎤 Emcee / Monologist

Emcee: Guide the audience through the show, introduce teams, provide commentary, and keep the energy up

Monologist: Share short stories based on prompts, which inspire the improv scenes. We’ll help you prep or coach as needed.

Time: 3–5 hours per show (includes a pre-show chat)

🛠️ Behind-the-Scenes Support

We often need help with day-of show support. Requests for this are posted on social media and our newsletters with the Volunteer Sign-Up Portal.

Time: Usually 1 hour

  • Show set up & teardown
  • Audience check-in
  • Concession, merchandise, and at-the-door ticket sales
  • Supply pick-up and delivery
