Our “Why”
Resonance Improv Alliance was born from a shared passion to foster connection through what we learned from improvisational theatre. We do it because our lives were transformed, and we want to see the healing that comes from human connection through the arts come to bear on our increasingly isolated community.
We express our mission in three key ways:
- supporting improvisers in the communities of Northern Virginia
- serving the broader community by creating accessible opportunities to experience the transformative power of improv
- meeting in the middle—hosting public events including interactive workshops to expose the public our favorite art
Supporting Improvisers
We saw a community of trained adult improvisers developing in the DC suburbs, yet few chances outside the Beltway to practice, perform, and play together. Resonance Improv bridges that gap by creating public performance opportunities and connecting improvisers with one another, building a vibrant, supportive network.

Serving the Community.

Improv isn’t just about laughs. Many adult students shared how improv energized and inspired them beyond the stage. That’s why we’re committed to bringing improv to the heart of the community: through fundraising shows for nonprofits, workshops tailored for social, civic, and special needs groups, and partnerships with arts organizations and schools to engage young people. We reach the underserved through programs like Improv for Movement and Memory for people with Parkinson’s or dementia and care partners.
Meeting in the Middle.
Our journey isn’t complete without you! That’s why we host pop-up shows as well as Improv Playground and Sillygander — open improv jams where anyone can join, no experience needed. These sessions are a fun, welcoming way to dip your toes into improv. You’ll have fun, you’ll meet new friends, and you’ll help heal your community by forging bonds rooted in joyful connection.
